I flew back into Shanghai a Thursday afternoon. Walking out of the metro station I was surprised to find the weather had turned quite cool in my absence. Fall is the best season to be a tourist. My first fall morning in Shanghai was spent exploring the five acre sprawl of the Suzhou style Yu Yuan Gardens.
Yù Yuán is located in the Old City area of Shanghai--only a metro stop south from my station,
Originally built during the Ming dynasty, the structure has been damaged, rebuilt, and repurposed throughout the centuries. Currently, the grounds are divided into six sections. Each separated by Chinese-style dragons. Their tiled bodies decorating the tops of section walls.
